Who we are?

BFC was founded in 2003. Its head office is in Zurich, Switzerland. BFC employs 50 permanent full time staff in branch offices located in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan.

BFC believes that success in microfinance is built upon sound management, professional staff, and efficient systems. When these conditions are met funding will flow, allowing both the institutions and their clients to flourish. BFC assists microfinance service providers meet the needs of their clients while managing their growth well.

Featured Projects

BFC has delivered training courses in Financial Analysis and Risk Management for eight trainees selected mutually by GTZ and BFC.

BFC has provided consulting services aimed at strengthening four newly-established MFIs in the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, Shanxi (2 MFIs) and on supporting potential investors of a potential fifth institution to be founded in Inner Mongolia.

BFC provided recommendations to the German development bank KfW for the design and implementation of a microfinance program in China which will facilitate the growth of a commercially viable microfinance industry.

BFC developed a Credit Scoring methodology for the partner institutions, thus improving the efficiency of loan approval process and maintaining a high quality of the loan portfolio.

On behalf of OeEB, BFC conducts a thorough market study on the financial sectors in the South Caucasus region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia).

The primary goal of this workshop was to raise banks awareness and demonstrate practical usage and impact of key approaches for achieving commercially viable and customer oriented MSE lending operations in Moldova.

On behalf of the World Bank Study "Access to Rural Finance in Bangladesh," BFC has undertaken the project "How commercial banks could better serve micro and small businesses in rural areas".
