BFC was founded in 2003. Its head office is in Zurich, Switzerland. BFC employs 50 permanent full time staff in branch offices located in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan.
BFC believes that success in microfinance is built upon sound management, professional staff, and efficient systems. When these conditions are met funding will flow, allowing both the institutions and their clients to flourish. BFC assists microfinance service providers meet the needs of their clients while managing their growth well.

BFC consultants performed a special audit engagement of the EBRD Kazakhstan Small Business Programme (KSBP) in Alliance Bank, in accordance with International Audit Standards. BFC consulted two local banks in setting sustainable and profitable microlending operations. One bank successfully graduated from the programme on March 2008. BFC together with Bankakademie (today Frankfurt School of Finance and Management) has administered screening tests to almost 1000 applicants for Loan Officer and managerial and consultant positions. Over 400 applicants have been interviewed, both individually and in groups. BFC was contracted directly by the bank to support the development and expansion of efficient and customer oriented MSE lending operations in Bank Republic as a follow up to its 15 months participation within the framework of EBRD's Small Enterprise Lending Programme. During the one-month assignment BFC has worked with Credins Bank at reviewing the MSE products, strengthening lending procedures and developing the skills of the MSE Lending staff BFC implemented a survey of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in four countries: Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine and Russia in accordance with international standards (ESOMAR). SELP III focused on further improving lending efficiency, building partner banks' institutional capacity, and supporting regional expansion. |
