BFC was founded in 2003. Its head office is in Zurich, Switzerland. BFC employs 50 permanent full time staff in branch offices located in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan.
BFC believes that success in microfinance is built upon sound management, professional staff, and efficient systems. When these conditions are met funding will flow, allowing both the institutions and their clients to flourish. BFC assists microfinance service providers meet the needs of their clients while managing their growth well.

BFC is supporting the expansion of MSE Lending and the strengthening of human resources, the development of MSE lending structures, policies and procedures. BFC, under Russian Small Business Fund, is strengthening the MSE lending operations in the Orient Express Bank (OEB). BFC provides technical assistance to the OEB network located in the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD). BFC provided recommendations to the German development bank KfW for the design and implementation of a microfinance program in China which will facilitate the growth of a commercially viable microfinance industry. BFC consulted partner financial institution in facilitating branching and expansion of micro credit provision.
BFC identified the best ways in which KfW could contribute to the development of the financial sector in Pakistan. During the SME Lending Strengthening programme at a local bank, BFC support covered: situation analysis, model development, implementation and training.
BFC developed the methodology and test instruments for the first computerized assessment of bank's staff, and carried out an assessment of middle management. |
